Carnevale Dianese
GENERAL FEATURES AND BACKGROUND -
In 1969 in Diano Marina a group of young people began to meet in order to organize masked parades on carriages (later on wagons), founding an association that they called "Famïa Dianese".
At the beginning, the various groups worked separately, those in the garden, those in a garage or where there was an available space. In 1980, a fairly large shed was found, later renamed "Shed of Smiles" where all eight wagons could be reunited and finally collaborate and have fun all together. The wagons represent the various districts or associations of Diano Marina: "Marmessi”, “De longu i stessi”, “Periferici”, “Perdigiurni”, “Quelli da Sciumaia”, “Goliardi Dianesi”, “Amixi de Sanbertumè” and “Foa de testa”.
Masks, confetti, streamers, masked musical groups and of course the parade of allegorical floats are the ingredients of a day of celebration much awaited by children and even adults.
Here is the program of the day in detail: at 10.30 the "Children's Carnival" in the central square of the village (Piazza del Comune), with entertainment, the "Baby Mask" competition, music and games for all children. In the afternoon, at 14.30, the allegorical floats parade takes place on the city circuit (to be repeated 3 times) which includes Corso Roma, Piazza Martiri della Libertà, Via Milano, Via Nizza, Via Genala. In the procession there will be masked groups, Brazilian samba dancers, majorettes and band groups (including the "Città di Diano Marina" Music Band). At around 17.00 Miss Carnival will be awarded, the most original group and the most beautiful mask.
